Welcome To My World
Welcome Everyone, to my web site. After many rewrites, it finally all came together. When building a site and having others help, it does become a challenge. I hope that you stay awhile and navigate through the pages and enjoy yourself.
I am a trained makeup artist, specializing in bridal, photos, movies, television or for that everyday soft look . Licensed in the Esthetics profession here in British Columbia, my training covers facial massage, eyelash and eyebrow tinting, waxing, treatment of skin problems with specialty products and galvanic electrical currents; or infrared, and high frequency machines. Fully trained in the art of nail enhancements using acrylic and gel based products and capable of treating all nail disorders.
The past few years has brought about some real growth and awareness in my writing. I can now see that being a published writer is something attainable. In fact, in January 2006, I published my first book of poetry - Explosions. Available for purchase on this site.
One may ask how I went from esthetician to writer - it was a long time love of writing short stories and a decision to 'find myself' after many years working in clerical or sales work.
Take a moment to read some of the poetry and written works that are posted right here on this site. I certainly hope you will enjoy what you see.
As Submissions Editor for Entry Way Marketing and Publishing at www.entrywaymarketing.com, I will be assisting Entry Way Marketing in reviewing and critiquing poetry and manuscripts. Editing services are available at $0.04/word for poetry and $0.03/word for fiction and non-fiction manuscripts. Agreements can be finalized through Entry Way Marketing and they do accept credit cards. The great thing about this is you can do one or two poems, or a manuscript of 100 can be turned into a published masterpiece. I will help you reach your desired dream.
Send submissions to entrywaycanada@aol.com.

Writers Have Many Talents
Everyone has a favourite hobby, and mine is riding horseback in the Western style. I currently own a registered Quarter Horse, a 4-year old Sorrel. Dandy is a gelding with a very gentle temperament.
As a young girl, my love of horses started while living just one block away from a stables.
When I was six years old, I would go down and watch the riders in their English riding attire, going over the jumps with these huge horses. Well, huge to a 6-year old with a vivid imagination.
Over the years, I wanted a horse so badly, and was envious of others who owned them. I never missed a TV show that was on horses. While out in the car, my head would swivel towards them each time and take in their beauty. Over the years, I read every horse magazine on Western riding and at times, our coffee table was covered with them.
I have spent hours studying their illnesses, their conformation, and the tack needed. I envied my brother, who owned horses, listened to my dad talk of the days growing up on a farm and his love for the equine animal.
A few years ago, my dream came true and we were able to purchase a horse. It was not a large amount of money to pay for a horse, but he was a charmer. Starting out with old 'Gus' whose registered name was Justabreezin, our family shared him for a year. Taking turns riding him in the arena and out on trails.
Old Gus soon became our daughter's sweet baby. She could ride him like the wind.
One year after getting Gus, we grew, by adding a terrific little 16-year-old Palomino. Amigo was given to us, but little did we know how ill he was. After 15 months of colic episodes and his stoic attitude during each bout, we said goodbye to him in May 2006. It was heartbreaking to lose him as he and I had bonded. Since our daughter had been riding Gus, and I had been riding Amigo, it became clear that now I was left with nothing to ride.
There I was, watching from the sidelines as my daughter rode Gus or so I thought.
Three days after losing Amigo, my husband - on Mother’s Day said, ‘Happy Mother’s Day.’ There I stood without words, looking at my new equine love, a 3-year-old Quarter Horse named JD Shock Em In Style aka Dandy. Now a writer with no words is a rarity. Dandy is a registered American Quarter Horse. Both Gus and Dandy came with a star-studded pedigree. Sires and Dams of award winning Quarter Horses were found in each lineage. Gus was from the Three Bars line, and Dandy has Three Bars and Skipper W bloodlines.
For those that are unaware of these bloodlines, they are pedigrees of the some of the top horses in the USA today that compete in ranching, rodeo, shows, or are used in regular trail riding. Three Bars and Skipper W were outstanding horses and two horses in the foundation of the Quarter Horse lineage that we know today.
Then tragedy struck again, that same year in November of 2006. Sadly, we lost Gus, at the age of 25. The old guy decided to do a buck and kick on an icy piece of paddock breaking his leg. Broken hearted we had to say goodbye to him as the injury he sustained was not a repairable one. Our daughter was heartbroken at the loss of her beloved equine. It was May of 2007, when we found her another excellent horse to ride. When one loses a horse, a piece of your heart goes too. Gus and Amigo hold special places in our hearts still, even if they have crossed the rainbow bridge. Now with Annie joining us, we can again make it a family ride.
My daughter now has a new 'old' horse. Annie is a 15 year old mare. Sweet as can be and fully trained. Annie is blind in her right eye since birth. She has a foal cataract. The interesting part of this is that she has become accustomed to using one eye her whole life. To watch her, one would never know she has a blindness handicap.
Spunky, raring to go, and full of spirit. Welcome Annie to our horse family.
In October 2006, I was granted certification with the American Equine Appraisers, specializing in Quarter Horses. I'm glad to start my new business venture and be able to fulfill a passion of mine. The business name is Sagebrush Equine Appraisals.

More About The Author
Debra lives in the beautiful Okanagan Valley of British Columbia. The surrounding area of mountains, lakes and vineyards, gave her the inspiration to write many poems on nature. The Okanagan Lake she resides near, is home to the 'Ogopogo Legendary Lake Monster.'
Her first foray into writing began at a very young age, around 4, when she used to write on the wall inside her closet. Getting caught by her mom writing on the room walls made her go under with her crayon works. Debra's works were now hidden from view for years to come. Throughout her school years she found that book reports and essay writing were more to her liking than discussing a poem and as she puts it dissecting the authors’ work. Her favorite books are those of Shakespeare, Edgar Allan Poe, Agatha Christie. It was in her senior year of high school when the best writing assignment was given: to take a fairy tale and update it into a new version. Little Red Riding Hood would never be the same nor would the Three Bears.
Years later, she started dabbling in the writing craft, keeping it hidden away on her computer and adding to it every so often. This past year is when Debra realized this was what she truly wanted to do. She finally understood why a neighbour used to lock herself away to work at writing. Now she knows what rewrites are all about. Gone are the days of her neighbor who wrote and had her crunched up balls of yellow paper laying on the floor around her typewriter. For Debra, it is a computer that saves to a disk and also saves on paper.
"I would like to thank my agent and editor, VicToria Freudiger, President of Entry Way Publishing ~ http://www.entrywaymarketing.com for giving me the motivation and positive input into my writing. To my family and friends for understanding my long hours of being attached to the computer keyboard."
Again, this incredible poet is honoring Entry Way with her skills as a submissions editor. If you have some submissions of poetry for publication please email it to:
